the Adam, which created a buzz the world over, even before the Tablet was released.
The Adam runs on Notion Ink's proprietary Operating System, the Eden 1.5, built on the Android v2.2 (Froyo). The Tablet is integrated with an NVIDIA Tegra 250 chipset, and powered by a 1 GHz Dual-Core ARM Cortex A-9 Processor. Thanks to this powerful Processor and the ULP GeForce Graphics Processing Unit, the Tablet supports 1080p video playback and functions at a blazing speed. Furthermore, the Adam comes with 1 GB DDR2 RAM and 1 GB of ROM.
The Adam comprises Eden, Notion Ink's own User Interface which is built on the Android OS and facilitates multi-tasking, enhances memory management and battery life. This Tablet is also integrated with a 3-Axis Accelerometer, an Ambient Light Sensor and a Digital Compass.
One characteristic unique to the Adam is that the Tablet has a 185 Deg swivel camera with Auto Focus, which means that the camera is flexible and it can be pivoted around. This is a 3.2 megapixel camera with 8x zoom and is integrated with video recording option. The Tablet is integrated with a microphone as well.
Design
The
Notion Ink Adam is designed in a standard bar form factor and has various input and output ports along the sides. The Tablet weighs about 725 g and has a slightly sloping form factor due to which the Tablet is 14 to 22 mm thick. The Adam has 2 USB 2.0 ports and 1 mini-USB port. This variant of the Adam has a 10.1-inch LCD touchscreen with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels, 262 K colours.
The unique feature about this variant of the Adam is that the display is Transmissive, Transflective and Reflective Sunlight Readable, that is, the screen reflects and transmits light, depending on the environment you are in. In brightly lit conditions, the LCD screen acts as a reflective display, playing with the contrast, reflecting enough light for you to work. However, in dim-lit ambience, it requires an auxiliary transmissive backlight.
In order to keep the touchscreen intact and protected, the display is Scratch resistant, Fingerprint resistant, and is clad by a Matte Screen Guard and an Anti-glare coating. The device is integrated with stereo loudspeakers.
Storage and Battery
The Adam comes with
8 GB of internal storage and it can be extended up to 64 GB by means of a microSD or microSDHC or a microSDXC card. The Tablet also supports almost all video and audio formats, which gives you the liberty to store a large number of multimedia files on the card. The 24 Watts per hour Lithium-Ion battery that this Tablet uses, gives you a whopping
48 hours of talktime.
Connectivity and Features
Preloaded with an
Eden and a Dolphin browser, this variant of the Adam has a wide range of Internet connectivity options to choose from. The Tablet conforms to 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi access and is
3G enabled with an HSDPA of 7.2 Mbps and 2 Mbps HSUPA. Apart from these, you can also use the integrated
GPRS and EDGE to surf the Net.
The Tablet is integrated with a v2.1 + EDR Bluetooth which is backward compatible with the v1.2, for faster data transfer. The Adam is also loaded with a True GPS for navigation on the move.
Other Business Features
This Notion Ink Tablet is spruced up with a number of business features like the
Pushmail app due to which you get email notifications on your Tablet and also select and segregate important mails. Other business oriented features on the Adam include the To-Do App, the Graphics editor, Calendar, QuickOffice, Amazon Kindle eBook Reader and the Sniffer, which is a packet analyser that helps in keeping a track of the web or digital traffic.
